Good Friday was the day Jesus was crucified on the cross; nails, crown of thorns, blood, and finally, his last breath through asphyxiation. Worse than the physical torment, was the humiliation, the rejection, the false conviction and the most painful of all, the rejection by the Father as he bore all our sins upon Himself. Rejected because God and sin don't mix. Rejected for the sake of love.
Many times in our modern and material-centred lives we become arrogant, cocky and self-sufficient in our know-it-all attitude. I know I have been guilty of such. But it is always humbling to reflect on Christ's sacrifice and humility. He took upon the shame of sinners and died for us. He was the King of Kings, but he died in the most undignified manner, on the cross. In His days, death through the cross was for convicts. One youth pastor said that wearing the cross is like wearing an electric chair in today's terms. It serves to remind us of God's humility and His love for the world.
I am truly humbled by His sacrifice of love for me. Many times I complain and want for more, more and more. Truth is, I'm blessed and loved just for the fact that I have Christ in my live. I just need to be reminded sometimes.
The story did not end with death. The veil in the temple that separated God from his people was torn when Christ died on the cross. It is symbolic of the direct access we have to the Father because of the death of Christ.
Thank you, Lord. Forgive me for I grieve your heart many a times.
Have a blessed Easter Sunday, everyone!
